A new aparthotel could be coming to Croydon.

On May 8, the Croydon Council Planning Sub-Committee met to discuss a plan submitted by Extending My Home Ltd to convert the Stoneham House car park on 17 Scarbrook Road into an aparthotel.

If approved, the development would see a new part three, part four-storey building constructed on the existing car park, providing seven self-contained aparthotel units.

An aparthotel is a hybrid between a hotel and a short-term rental, offering guests their own kitchen and living space, while still providing hotel-style services like cleaning and reception support.

These are often aimed at tourists, business travellers, or those seeking extended-stay accommodation.

The planning statement argues that the aparthotel would help meet Croydon’s demand for modern short-stay options in a town centre location.

The site currently has 18 parking spaces, two of which are accessible bays.

If the development goes ahead, only two parking spaces would remain.

The site has a PTAL rating of 6b, the highest score possible, meaning it is extremely well-connected to public transport including buses and trains.

Developers have pointed to existing aparthotels in Croydon, like Flexistay Tulsi Aparthotel and Caroco Apart Hotel, as evidence of viability and demand.

The developers concluded their planning statement with: “Given that the council accepted the business case for 35-37 Morland Avenue (Caroco Apart Hotel) based on the benefits of apart-hotel accommodations, a similar case can be made for this proposed development.”

The committee approved the first stage of the aparthotel application, concerning layout and scale, by a narrow vote
