Grove Property is seeking the Purley community’s perspective for a proposed M&S Foodhall on Brighton Road, ahead of submitting a planning application, with a view to starting construction in 2024.

The survey, features questions including:

Do you support the plans for a new M&S foodhall and cultural and creative hub for Purley?

Rate how important new M&S foodhall is to you; affordable workspace for local businesses; transforming an underutilised site; retaining listed frontages and job creation.

Grove Property has outlined plans to transform the site of the former Milk and More depot between Brighton Road and Purley Park Road.

The frontages of the existing three locally listed buildings would be restored and transformed into a new two-storey building for the new shop. The developers say the new store would include 70 car parking spaces for shoppers.

The plans include a new three storey “enterprise hub” at the back of the site. This would be made up of 20 small studios and two larger open-plan studios. This would be let out as workspace which the developer said would be affordable and especially for those in creative industries.

It is expected the new M&S store would create 50 jobs while 70 people would work from the hub.

Grove Property is based in Fulham and the scheme has been designed by 3W Architecture.

Marks and Spencer have a newly opened foodhall on the Purley Way on the site of the old John Lewis at Home and there has been a M&S foodhall in West Wickham for a number of years which was created in the old dairy and retains the frontage.
