Croydon’s Planning Committee have granted consent for a new scheme on George Street in Croydon.

The proposed scheme, by Freshwater Group/Highdorn and architects ORMS, involves demolishing two older, existing buildings of three and seven storeys, and replacing them with a new 11 storey Grade A specified office HQ.

The committee members were impressed with the design detail and the receptiveness of the team to suggested amendments at the pre-application meetings.

There has been widespread recognition from the industry that Croydon needs new inspirational and flexible office space with large floor plates to attract businesses to the area – a message which has clearly resonated with the local authority.

The scheme will provide flexible office space of 155,000 sq ft, with 14,000 sq ft floor plates, a ground floor café, 248 cycle spaces with lockers and showers and a ground floor business/touch down suite.

The adjoining College Square, will be landscaped, provided with new lighting and improved under a public land S278 process.

Freshwater will now review the project with a view to preparing a pre-let campaign and lead in works needed to facilitate the development. The final hurdle to be crossed will be London Mayor approval.
